The Importance Of Armor

When you are in a battle, you have to be certain you have on all of your armor. You
have to have your breastplate to protect your chest, boots to protect your feet, a shield to
block weapons, a helmet to keep your head safe, and your sword to defend yourself. If you
were missing even one of these, than you wouldn’t be fully protected. You have to have your
full armor to be completely shielded from the enemy. Armor is essential in a physical battle, but even more so in the spiritual battle we are in.

In this spiritual battle, we aren’t fighting against fleshly humans, but against spiritual
wickedness and rulers of darkness. God commands us to have our “loins girt about with truth”,
to put on the breastplate of righteousness, and have our “feet shod with the preparation of the
gospel of peace”. And the most important ones are the shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and
the sword of the Spirit.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the
whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we
wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers
of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto
you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the
breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of
the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God.” (Ephesians 6:10-17)
