What is God’s will? – 10/3/20

It is God’s will that we would love one another as he has loved us (not only in word, but in deed), that we would not be conformed to this world, to give thanks in all circumstances, that we be sanctified and avoid sexual immorality (fornication), that we should know how to control our body in a way that is holy and honorable, that no man defraud his brother in any matter, to be holy, that we increase more and more, study to be quiet and do our own business, to work with our hands, walk honestly toward them that are without, to not be ignorant and to study to show ourselves approved, to deny ourselves and follow him, to silence the ignorant talk of foolish people by us doing good, to persevere and endure until the end, to come to the knowledge of the truth, and to do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

It is his will that all would be saved, but because of man’s disobedience, not many will be. He does not force his love upon us. We must choose to obey and follow him. We must choose to abide in and draw near to him. If we choose to do the opposite, to disobey and follow the world, then eternal life does not abide in us, and God will judge the wicked.

“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.” -John 15:12

“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.” -1 John 3:16-19

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” -Romans 12:2

“who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” -1 Timothy 2:4

“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” -1 Thessalonians 5:18

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:(sexual immorality) That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness…that ye increase more and more; And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. -1 Thessalonians 4:3-7, and 10-12

“Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” -Luke 9:23

“For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.” -1 Peter 2:15

“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” -1 Peter 1:16

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” -Hebrews 10:36

“He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” -Micah 6:8

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” -1 Corinthians 9-11
